8X Middelburg Photography Hotspots – Zeeland

8. The First Street You Walk Into – Segeersstraat

When walking towards the city centre of Middelburg from the train station, it’s likely the first street you enter is the Segeersstraat. With its nice green trees and cute shops Segeersstraat is already giving you a warm welcome into Middelburg. From one side of the street you can already spot the Lange Jan, and from the other side you look at canal houses. This street feels super lively and therefore the first photography hotspot in Middelburg.

Ahhhh I’m so excited for you to read number 3!?

7. Adorable Little Bridge – Bellinkbrug

Middelburg is surrounded by water, in the centre you can find a little harbour and you can even do a canal tour on a boat! To get over these canals you come across the occasional bridge. My favourite photography-bridge in Middelburg, Zeeland is the Bellinkbrug. This is a small white bridge for cyclers and people on foot. The best thing about this little bridge are the canal houses and boats that surround it, making this a beautiful setting to snap your next photo.

Tip ➳ The best way to explore Middelburg is on foot. Almost everything is within walking distance. However, if you don’t feel like walking, explore Middelburg the Dutch way: by bike.

P.S. Do you like my shirt? I designed it myself ❤️. Here you can find some more designs ?

6. Canal House Paradise – Nieuwstraat

Middelburg feels a bit like a miniature, but more cozy version of Amsterdam. With canal and- warehouses all over the city. A very beautiful street with these kind of houses is Nieuwstraat. Wander around and enjoy the lovely looking houses. But do pay attention when taking photos here as this street is accessible to cars.

Tip ➳ Try Out Real Traditional Dutch Food

5. Octagon Shaped Church – Oostkerk

Besides the Lange Jan, there is another church in Middelburg you need to visit. The Oostkerk is an octagon shaped church with a dome roof. This 17th century protestant church was especially build for performing special ceremonies. The shape of the Oostkerk and the line of sight towards the church are very impressive, and therefore photogenic?.

4. City Hall Of Middelburg

The city hall of Middelburg is a spectacular midivil building with tons of details carved in the stone. The oval window, the red window shutters and the clock tower make this definitely one of the most beautiful city halls in The Netherlands. The Gothic architecture style makes this building stand out and makes the central market in Middelburg, Zeeland a treat for the eyes.

Fun Fact ➳ Students of University College Roosevelt in Middelburg actually have classes in the city hall of Middelbrug. How awesome!

3. The Abbey – Onze Lieve Vrouwe Abdij

The Onze Lieve Vrouwe Abbey is one of the most historically interesting buildings in Middelburg. This 11th-century abbey was an important and powerful centre in Zeeland. The abby square, church and Lange Jan tower all belong to the Onze Lieve Vrouw Abbey.

Personally I love the abby for its gorgeous stone ceilings and huge windows. Plus, in the centre of the abbey there is a little garden/courtyard.

2. Colourful Umbrella Street – Reigerstraat

In the historical centre of Middelburg you will find the Lange Jan Tower watching over the city. From far away you can already spot this 90 m high tower, as it is one of the largest/highest landmarks in Zeeland.

The best view on the Lange Jan is from the Reigerstraat. With colourful umbrellas hanging above the street, cute cafes and lovely greenery, the Reigerstraat makes the perfect photography hotspot in Middelburg, Zeeland. You can frame the Lange Jan in-between the umbrellas, creating stunning pictures and showing off one of the prettiest spots in Middelburg.

1. Michiel De Ruyter Alley – Kuiperspoort

Kuiperspoort is 100% the best known photography hotspot in Middelburg and maybe even in the entire province of Zeeland. This tiny little alley makes you feel like you have gone back in time for at least 200 years. The stunning warehouses are all still in the original style. With hooks on the frontage for lifting goods, little window shutters and cellar doors in front of the houses. At the end of the street there is an entrance gate with an iconic red/white door. A true hidden gem!

Did you know parts of the Michiel De Ruyter movie were filmed in the Kuiperspoort?
